Hanging out with the Armstrongs

On May 20th, 2023, we spent time in Conestoga, PA visiting Dan Armstrong and his family. We spent time with Dan, Sandy, Andrew, Morgan and Colten. Aunt Dee had fun playing with Colten and his legos. We had pizza together and then sat outside and enjoyed a lovely evening. Colten entertained us with his stories and activities. He definitely takes after his Dad and Pap-pap with his love for motorcycles. He was amazing on his dirt bike already at the age of 5 years old.

We really enjoyed telling stories to each other about our interactions with the police. Almost all of us had a story about being sassy with the police or out running the police or trying to hid from the police. Aunt Dee shared her story about being pulled over in State College at night. She was driving with a girlfriend and forgot to put her lights on. She got pulled over and the cop was very young and very nervous, but he was acting tough. He said, “I’m not going to punish you this time.”. And Aunt Dee replied, “Does that mean you are not going to spank us?”, which she thought was funny. The cop just looked uncomfortable and walked away. Julie shared the story of when she was in high school and the Conestoga police pulled her over. She was coming from the pool and the cops pulled in behind her at the Wagon Restaurant. They followed her all the way through town and pulled her over at the top of the hill heading out of town. They came up and said she was swerving all over the road, and squealing her tires and they were tired of the high school kids thinking they could do whatever they want, so they were going to make an example out of her. They charged her with reckless endangerment, which was a misdemeanor. When they came back to have me sign the charge, Julie told them that her mom wanted to read it first and she was in the back seat. The policeman was shocked to see her back there because Julie did not do any of the things they were accusing her of. We didn’t sign it and took it to court. We won the case because it was Nan-Nan Habeckers old car that Russ had first and then was handed down to me. It didn’t run on all the cylinders and couldn’t squeal the tires no matter how hard you tried. Despite winning the case, Mom and Dad made Julie pay the lawyers fees. She paid the lawyer $10 a week until it was paid off.

Andrew is Dan Armstrong’s son and Carol Habecker Armstrong Bleachers’ grandson; Dan is Carol Habecker Armstrong Bleachers’ son.
